Its a real shame to see this all happen . It was through MLP:Online and this forum built for it that I met many bronies who are now my close friends. But I look forward to seeing what comes next, from Starlight Studios. The best of luck for your new project.

I think that's a fan-spread rumor. I've heard people say there's no evidence to back that up--it's just an assumption after the whole Star Wars thing.

Just to clarify a bit on the whole "we" posting the game on the build. It might be best if there were no public links as that could be viewed by the Hasbro lawyers as us ignoring their warning. If you guys wish to share amongst yourselves through private messaging, that is fine I believe.

But please note as a bit of advice on the internet. Since we can no longer post the official version, be careful who you are accepting a link from as that copy may be a modified version with viruses or keyloggers in it. Use your best judgement if possible.

I know 2 games that were shut down, removed all info about the game from their site. But one game did get some legal stuff sorted out and were allowed to continue and finish the game. The other game remains shut down and its dev team had since moved on to other projects.

Its best to have someone to keep an unmodified version of their game in case someone else wants to play it. Like a game that could've been.

Do I have to has an account to download the game? If The Silver Lining was going to be King's Quest IX, do I have to play King's Quest I though VIII to understand the game?

Something just seems so off with this. There are plenty, and I do mean plenty, of fan games out there that haven't been touched, and I'm talking outside the MLP fanbase. If it is just the name, then in reality the project can continue exactly as is (and my save file will still be valid, swing!) just with a new title.

My biggest fear... one that has already come partially true when a favorite franchise of mine unfortunately became absorbed by evil... and a rumor I had heard before... Disney buying Hasbro. Say goodbye to any fan games and Hasbro's purity if that dark future comes to pass.

The only good that could come of Disney buying Hasbro is.................. well, for one thing, I would personally enjoy ponified Disney movies. Just so long as no NEW Disney movies were made of ponies.

As I said, it is not through any fault of Hasbro. This is the way that U.S. law works, and if you want to change it, I suggest contacting your local representative.

Keep an eye our over the next day for more information about how to help out with the project and what we are looking for!

According to this and since disclaimers and non profic obviously means nothing then it means that they can force companies to sue, fanfiction.net, Youtube, Hulu, hongfire, adventurequest and it's spinoffs, Fimfiction.net, just about every transformers site, Wikipedia, Space Battles forum, theforce.net, Deviantart.net, All Torrent sites and searches, anything even remotely assosiated with Disney or Marvel or DC (and their are a ton of sites like that), and many other sites that are very popular and have been around for quite some time. Looking this over it means that they can practically force anyone to sue another person they can even force DC to Sue Marvel because Deadpool was origionally created as a spin off Character of DC's Death Stroke. And since their is no way for anyone to tell the group that this wouldn't work they can't help but waist good money and resources into a pointless suing match that would result in acomplishing nothing of practical importance other than maybe Marvel being forced to get rid of one of their favorite characters.

They definitely should try harder to determine where mlponline stands and why Hasbro doesn't like it. And by "they" i also mean members of other mlp computer game projects. It's likely that Hasbro will demand to shut down them as well as soon as they will publish their products.

My guess is that Hasbro's reasoning behind ordering shutdown is this: any well made fan mlp computer game threaten Hasbro with decreasing value of their potential commercial licenses sells. If that is the case, probably no amount of knocking will make Hasbro budge, but perhaps it's something else and considering thremendous amount of work fans put into their products, harassing Hasbro for permission or at least more info seems worthwile.

Actually it was a government group that has the power to force Hasbro or any other developer and company to sue anyone they deem has violated Copywrights.

Well from what I know from my limited amount of law you can ask The Hasbro Lawyers if an agreement can be settled. Chances are is that they might agree and there is a chance lawyers won't even tell their bosses but it can be done by asking people who do work but are not in the legal section of hasbro to ask higher ups if anything you probably can get this signed off as free advertising for them they would go for that. Another thing that might work is trying to get the game sold under their copyright but it would be a pain in the flank.

But still good on you guys for sticking through it to the end
